The Swapo Party has come to the defence of the late Founding President Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma following the circulation of social media content accusing him of suppressing corruption reports during his presidency.
In a statement issued by Secretary-General Sophia Shaningwa on behalf of the party, Swapo responded to widely shared audio recordings and written posts alleging that Dr. Nujoma concealed information on corruption during his tenure as Head of State. The party dismissed these allegations as baseless and lacking evidence.
The statement further highlights Dr. Nujoma’s significant contributions to Namibia’s liberation struggle and his leadership in establishing the country’s post-independence governance framework.
Swapo also expressed concern over the timing and nature of the allegations, noting that they target a leader who is no longer alive to respond. The party urged the public to approach such claims with caution and to remain focused on preserving national unity and historical integrity.
