Orban Primary School celebrated its 50th anniversary on Friday.
The school opened its doors in 1975 in the capital with 35 learners and seven teachers.
The principal of the school, Jan Cloete, said that they are honouring the past, celebrating the present, and inspiring the future.
"A day we can dedicate to a place where learners are educated, where we make friends, where we spend a third of our time, and a day and place where we get to be ourselves. Alt Orban Primary School was, is, and will forever be the best. In its 50 years of existence, it still has not lost its spark. This year, we saw it again when the entire school's learners stood on a giant 50. As long as Orban exists, it will be our special place."
Irene Garthoff is the Chief Education Officer in the Education Ministry.
Fifty years. That is half a century of learning, growing, evolving, and shaping lives. Today is more than a celebration of a number. It is a celebration of stories—of generations who walked through these halls, sat in these classrooms, and dreamed their first big dreams right here. It is a celebration of a legacy built one student, one teacher, and one day at a time."
The learners at the celebration released balloons into the sky, each balloon representing a prayer point for the school's hopes and dreams for the future.
