President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged leaders at public enterprises to align their strategies, plans, and integrated business plans with the goals of NDP6.
She remarked this during the 10th annual general meeting of the CEO Forum, held under the theme "Public Enterprise, Energising Growth, Compete, Partner, Excel," at Walvis Bay.
The head of state indicated that leaders of public institutions share the responsibility to lead responsibly and to ensure quality service delivery as well as inclusive and sustainable implementation of the nation's development agenda.
Public enterprises remain strategic partners in Namibia's economy, she said, established to guarantee the provision of essential services, to regulate those sectors, and to generate revenue for the state through dividends and taxes.
SOEs also drive industrialisation and create employment, she added, citing about 125,000 people employed in the sector.
The President also warned against corruption.
The President's speech was delivered on her behalf by the Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi.
"On this basis, I urge you to promote ethical and cooperative governance, remain vigilant against corruption in all its manifestations, and safeguard the public resources entrusted to you by your respective enterprises for the public and the common good. As you might be aware, the eighth administration has prioritised youth empowerment amongst other key priorities in this regard. I urge you, as leaders in the public and private sectors, to create opportunities that aim to empower our youth."
Also speaking at the event was Erongo Governor Nathalia |Goagoses who said, "This distinguished gathering of missionary leaders will continue to drive innovation, resilience, and sustainability across our economy. Therefore, I deeply value the role you play in shaping the economy, creating jobs, and inspiring excellence across all sectors."
Trevino Forbes, the Mayor of Walvis Bay, emphasised the forum's contribution to national developmental goals through shared learning and strategic cooperation.
"As we reflect on the achievements of the past ten years, let us also look forward with renewed commitment and vision. Together, we can continue to strengthen the sector, promote sustainable growth, and contribute to our nation's development."
