The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has handed over a fully equipped HD Outside Broadcasting Van to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MICT). The N$4 million unit was procured by the NBC at the ministry's request and will help boost the quality of live broadcasts and event coverage across the country.
The van is fully equipped with video, audio, graphic compartments, a battery capacity that can last for more than eight hours, a generator, and an air conditioner.
"Serving as a project lead has not only been a professional privilege but also a powerful reminder of the vital role that NBC continues to play in supporting national development and service delivery. At every stage, we upheld the principles of transparency, accountability, and compliance," said the NBC's Chief Technology Officer and Project Lead, Tuulikki Shipanga.
The Executive Director of MICT, Audrin Mathe, and the Director General of NBC, Stanley Similo, both stressed the importance of installing more OB vans across regions.
"The van, as it stands here, will form part of the bigger picture in terms of how we can give people access to information. It will be able to move now, and part of what we have been discussing will also be how the Government Information Centre will function, but I will leave it to the ED as well. However, as representatives of NBC, we are pleased to know that we can deliver on this initiative," said Similo.
On his part, Dr. Mathe emphasised the importance of local collaborations, adding that "This has been done with a local firm, as far as understanding from NBC. So we are very happy with that collaboration and hope that in the future we will be able to work together again, ensuring that our client, the Namibian people, will benefit from this acquisition."
The OB van, fully equipped with the latest equipment, was procured through Media Management Solution Namibia, in partnership with South African-based Media Management Solution Africa, and included skills and knowledge transfers.
