A team spearheaded by the governor of Omaheke and the police regional commander has proposed a number of remedies to ease tribal tensions that flared recently at Otjinene.

They have proposed the establishment of an Otjinene Constituency neighbourhood watch, a designated area for street vendors, the clearing of a bushy area between the residential areas, and the erection of street lights.

Omaheke Governor, Pijoo Nganate, said the committee will be established to address the issue of illegal immigrants and to arrange a meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs, as some of those alleged to commit illegal activities are undocumented citizens.

Nganate added that there is a pressing need for the establishment of a satellite police station in the informal settlement.

The police regional commander, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze, warned local residents to desist from inciting violence through social media platforms.
