The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has registered 514 eligible voters during the just-ended Outapi by-election supplementary registration.

Though the by-election is scheduled for the 29th of September, there will still be a national election in November.

The position became vacant following the appointment of the former Councillor Immanuel Shikongo as Omusati Governor.

The registration was therefore aimed at issuing voter cards to those who have turned 18, lost their cards, or changed residential addresses.

Elizabeth Shiningayamwe, Electoral Officer for the Omusati Region, expressed satisfaction with the registration process, adding that "the registration process was very peaceful, no hiccups; everything went as planned, and we are urging residents of Outapi that come 29 of September, they should turn up in numbers to come and vote for the councillor of the Outapi constituency."

One of the registered voters, Johannes Shikongo, called on all eligible voters in the Outapi Constituency to ensure that they take part in the elections.
