The Omuthiya constituency office hosted a community information sharing day to update residents on upcoming changes to social grant distribution.
During the gathering, officials informed the beneficiaries that social grants will no longer be distributed by Epupa Investments Technology, as NamPost will now take over the distribution process.
Wilbard Nashandi, Director of Policy Planning and Research at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, explained that these changes are driven by technological advancements aimed at making the process more efficient.
“The new system will eliminate the need to pay social grants directly to pensioners,” Nashandi said. “This transition will be smoother, with Epupa handling final payouts for September and October, which will be paid together at the end of September. Starting in November, NamPost will distribute social grants directly.”
According to Nashandi, the government expects to save approximately N$57.9 million by ending the service with Epupa. The transition period allows Epupa sufficient time in October to transfer all beneficiary documentation to Nampost.
Nashandi emphasised the benefits of the new system, noting that elders will now be able to shop and swap their cards for payments, ensuring their money is safer.
A resident of Omuthiya expressed appreciation for the change, highlighting that recipients will no longer need to listen to radio announcements each month. Instead, they will receive their social grants directly at NamPost, making the process more convenient and efficient.
