Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate has called on ministries in the region to take the lead in sharing information on Namibia's Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) and regional priority areas and setting up evaluation and monitoring systems that will accelerate development.
According to the regional Governor Pijoo Nganate, it is expected from the head of line ministries and the office of the governor to design a regional planning framework and to coordinate all related programmes if the region has to succeed in reaching the developmental agenda.
Nganate added that it's high time that the region advocates for programmes that will create job opportunities and avoid working in isolation, as this deprives the communities of much-needed services.
"We must have a regional profile, we must know as a region what our strengths, weaknesses and opportunities are, what is, for example, the human resource that we have; and what are the resources that we have, whether natural or so on. That regional profile must be there; it must be a booklet in the office of the governor and in any other office so that as someone comes, you can take out that profile and say, 'This is our region.' We must have that, and the governor is further to monitor the implementation of policies and programmes of all offices, agencies and the regional council as contained in the party manifesto."
On his part, the Chief Agricultural Scientific Officer, Dr. Jorry Kaurivi, welcomed the initiative and said that it will be of paramount importance if they can set up a forum through the office of the Governor that will coordinate development activities.
Kaurivi added that quarterly reports should also speak on regional priorities and match them with what the National Development Plan six is expecting of the region.
"The issues that we as the region need to address are really issues that the region is struggling with moving or trying to address; therefore, with what the governor started with earlier on, issues that are telling development policies, regional profiles and regional plans that need to be cascaded from the NDPs, as they are national things, and the region needs to look in these NDPs and see regional prioritising."
