The Mayor of Omuthiya, Beatha Nashongo, addressed the community regarding the ongoing process of replacing residents of Okaniita and the procedures involved.

She emphasised the importance of understanding the structured approach used to ensure fair land distribution and proper documentation.

According to Nashongo, the process begins with a first phase where 309 individuals have already been allocated land. These recipients are those who already possess land and have maintained their water bills, demonstrating their compliance with the necessary requirements. Additionally, new applicants who have applied and can provide proof of water bills are also considered during this initial phase.

The second phase of the process is now underway. So far, a total of 904 individuals have applied for land allocation. Moving forward, the town will carefully review these applications, ensuring that all applicants meet the criteria set forth by the town’s regulations, said Nashongo.

Mayor Nashongo also highlighted that there are strict policies in place to prevent individuals from holding multiple land allocations. Specifically, if a person already owns land through the Shackdwellers Federation, they will not be eligible to apply for or be granted additional land in this process.

This measure aims to promote fairness and equitable distribution among community members.
