Nǂama Village School, one of the six community-based village schools in the Nyae Nyae Conservancy in Tsumkwe, was handed over.

Cwi |Aice, the school board chairperson, expressed his satisfaction with the opening of the school.

He said that even though the community follows traditional norms, it is important that education not be forgotten.

"My responsibility as the Chairperson is to ensure that all the learners are well taken care of and healthy. I am therefore calling on all the parents to please make sure that your kids come to school because these kids are the future."

He further stated that the children who are far from Nǂama are also welcome and that they will also be equally taken care of.

Kgunta Nxao, one of the elders at Nǂama called on the learners not to drop out of school at an early age but to continue with school until they complete it. He further said that school is life.

"I am an old man; I did not finish my school. Therefore, it is my responsibility to tell my kids the importance of going to school. I must push them and also tell my fellow elders to bring their kids to school. Our kids are supposed to be the ones who will help us tomorrow."

The Governor of the Otjozondjupa Region, John ||Khamuseb, said that the facility reflects the holistic approach to education, one that nurtures the mind, the soul and the body.

"The school is in urgent need of food supplies for the hostel, and there is a pressing need to construct more facilities at Duinpos and ǂAu||xoba village schools."

He further appealed to Namibian and international organisations, corporate partners, and philanthropic entities to respond to his call.

"Let us work together to make lives normal and dignified for the children in Nyae Nyae village schools. The Otjozondjupa regional government remains committed to supporting education in the marginalised communities; we will continue to advocate for resources, infrastructure and policy support to ensure no child is left behind."

He further told the learners to become what they aspire to be.
