President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to speak openly about the rising number of suicides in the country.
The President's appeal comes as Namibia recorded more than 400 suicide cases during the 2024/2025 financial year.
She described suicide as a serious societal ill affecting many families, stressing that addressing the crisis requires a coordinated national effort.
"In this regard, no one should feel alone or ashamed when facing emotional pain. Seeking help when faced with problems must not be regarded as a sign of weakness. It is rather an act of courage. Let us look out and listen to one another. Let us help those who are in need of our helping hand and remind them that their lives matter."
President Nandi-Ndaitwah issued these calls in her New Year's message to the nation.
