The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has condemned the shooting at a community court session in Iikokola village, Ondonga Traditional Authority, where one traditional leader was killed and another injured.

IPC spokesperson Immanuel Nashinge said the incident raises concerns about safety at community courts nationwide.

He noted that a forum meant to resolve disputes peacefully turned violent, with fatal consequences.

Nashinge said the IPC has long called for Namibian Police deployment at community courts, especially during official sessions. He recalled assurances from the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations that courts would receive protection during hearings, yet this shooting shows those commitments remain unimplemented.

Nashinge added that community courts lack equipment to handle violence, leaving participants exposed. He urged the government to urgently enhance security at community and formal courts, including basic public screening measures.

Nashinge also called on traditional leaders to treat land disputes seriously, given their potential to turn violent.

The IPC, Nashinge said, extends condolences to the affected families.
