Steven Schneiders told the court that he attempted to take his own life after learning that his girlfriend and co-accused, Naomi Fisch, had suffered a miscarriage.

During bail proceedings, Schneiders testified that he cut himself on the chest, arms, and neck using a blade and a blunt knife while in custody.

Schneiders said the Rehoboth police have not placed him on suicide watch, and he has not received counselling for his suicide attempt or the loss of his unborn child.

Schniders is charged with dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. He denied that he was selling crack cocaine, mandrax, or cannabis, or that drugs were being sold at the house where he stayed with Fisch.

On the issue of money found in his possession, Schneiders told the court that when he was released from prison, he had N$35,000 that had been saved for him by his mother and sister while he was incarcerated. He stated that his family had rented out his house during that period.

Schneiders further testified that he made N$119,000 from operating a tuck shop and from doing odd jobs with his father in seven months. He denied that the money was the proceeds of drug sales.

He told the court that he intends to plead not guilty to the charge of dealing in drugs. On the charge of possession, Schneiders said he has not yet discussed how he will plead with his lawyer.
