A subsistence farmer in the Kavango West Region's Kaguni village, Domingo Ndara, has been left hopeless after locusts invaded his crop field.

Ndara planted mahangu, beans, maize, and groundnuts; however, from 21 December, he began to notice locusts in the crop field.

"They started from the side where the tree is; my mahangu and beans were growing well, but now they have destroyed everything. I am now left with only two rows. They have ravaged this entire large crop field; there is nothing left," said Ndara.

He said this is the first time he has experienced a locust attack.

From his five-hectare crop field, he typically harvests over 100 bags of mahangu and maize for the market to cover the family's expenses.

"It's going to be difficult. Even my kids – none of them get grants. I struggle. I would greatly appreciate it if the government could assist us with registering the little ones for the grant, or if any Good Samaritan could help me in any way. This year, my home will go through difficult moments."
