The Mine Workers Union of Namibia (MUN) handed a petition to the General Manager of Rosh Pinah Zinc Mine, citing allegations of unfair treatment and promotion practices.

MUN acting Secretary General Paulus Situmba said the mine overlooks local miners and contractors for skills development, favouring non-Namibian contractors instead.

"The Mine Workers Union deems these actions a violation of constitutional principles of equal opportunity for qualified Namibians," Situmba said. "We have them, and we know who they are. This also demonstrates favouritism and discriminatory practices, particularly against our Black employees. It is unacceptable—it undermines trust, morale, and confidence in management processes."

Situmba outlined workers' demands, including the immediate termination of contractor Corica Mining Services, revocation of work visas for four master drilling operators, and removal of the current drug-testing equipment. They also demanded the termination of General Manager Alex Mayrick.

"We therefore demand, as a union, that General Manager Alex Mayrick's contract end with immediate effect," Situmba added. "Promoted positions must be revoked and advertised for a fair and transparent process."

Mayrick responded to the miners.

"On behalf of Rosh Pinah, thank you for the peaceful demonstration," Mayrick said. "We need to review all points and demands in the petition. Seven working days from Tuesday means we will respond by then. Thank you for complying with Namibia's labour laws. I look forward to seeing you at work every day until then—that's all I can say for now."
