The group gathered there, hoping to catch the attention of Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) officials and amplify their request. 

The group of nearly twenty, comprising various family members of the detained fishrot suspects, braved the chilly morning weather on Monday to express their concerns related to the ongoing safety of the suspects.

Protesters demand justice for Okahandja police shooting victims

Protesters marched to Agostinho Neto Square on Saturday to demand justice for the killing of five men who died at the hands of police officers in Okahandja in April last year.

The protest was spearheaded by activist and Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) member Michael Amushelelo.

The plan for this march was to bring across a message of grief and unhappiness.

Gathered were the youth, family, and friends of Erikki 'Akawa' Martin, Abed Andreas, Marius Ipinge, Malaika Kotokeni, and Flavianus Endjala.

Windhoek residents protest against commercial banks

Residents of Windhoek have embarked on a mass protest against commercial banks over home repossessions.

The protests are set to be undertaken nationwide.

Led by the National Ownership Association, protestors say the issue of repossession has been a longstanding concern, and many citizens have lost their primary residence as a result.

The petitioners want an amendment to the law to allow people to live dignified lives.

Gobabis residents demand suspension of municipal workers allegedly implicated in corrupt activities

Some residents of Gobabis are demanding the suspension of municipal workers who are allegedly implicated in corrupt activities without pay.

A court order issued last month indicated that eight employees who were suspended two years ago must be reinstated because they were suspended unprocedurally.

These are Frieda Uitele, John Endjala, Fillemon Makili, Johannes Nantuua, Ashipala Shilemba, Veinona Steyn, Paul Kayambu, and Kondjeni Nghiwanapo.

LPM protests against Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Office councillor

Disgruntled Landless Peoples' Movement (LPM) members and supporters at Keetmanshoop staged a protest against the Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency Office, accusing the sitting councillor, Joseph Isaack, of having failed to implement any socio-economic developmental project.

Isaack, representing LPM, took office after the 2019 regional elections.

Marching through the streets of Keetmanshoop, protestors demanded the removal of Councillor Isaack, claiming that he was never available when needed by the electorate, which voted him into office.

Otamanzi Constituency farmers protest against fencing off of Sheya Shuushona Conservancy

Over 200 farmers from the Otamanzi Constituency have continued their protest against the fencing off of the Sheya Shuushona Conservancy, including a saltpan where they used to freely extract salt for animals and household consumption.

The large grazing land that surrounds the area in question falls under the Ongandjera Traditional Authority.

The farmers held a meeting in the hope of being granted an audience by members of the Land Board who were in the area to listen to their concerns.

City of Windhoek employees gives council a deadline

About 600 employees of the Windhoek Municipality have given the council until Friday to act on their demands, or they will continue staging demonstrations every Monday.

The workers are demanding permanent employment contracts, a medical aid scheme, and psychosocial support.

According to the demonstrating cleaners' spokesperson, Tranus Kavaara, many of his colleagues are approaching retirement age and would go home with no benefits.

Shikongo denies request by NEFF to hold a protest

The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, has denied a request by the Namibian Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) to hold a protest along Independence Avenue in support of striking workers of the Windhoek Municipality.

NEFF made the request on Thursday last week, and Shikongo says that the request to hold the protest is not in compliance with the three working-day notice.

Lieutenant General Shikongo also informed NEFF that the aim of the intended demonstration has not been clearly specified in the notice.

Truck drivers planning to protest over hike in entry-permit tariffs imposed by Zambia last year

Approximately 300 truck drivers are planning a protest over a hike in entry-permit tariffs imposed by Zambia last year.

The drivers claim Zambia's immigration authorities imposed a hike in entry permits from only N$3,400 to N$12,250 a year, which is very costly since the drivers and employers each pay 50% of the entry-permit bill.
