The Namibia University of Science and Technology Council has re-advertised the position of Vice-Chancellor to broaden the recruitment process.

In a statement, the institution clarified that the position was initially advertised last year through both internal and external channels, with Namibians encouraged to apply.

Following a review of the initial process, the Council resolved to re-advertise the position to strengthen competitiveness, broaden the reach and give suitably qualified candidates a fair opportunity to apply.

Last year's recruitment process was conducted with the support of an independent recruitment agency and overseen by a Council-appointed committee in line with university statutes and regulations.

NUST said the process is guided by the council-approved criteria and governance procedures for a transparent, fair and merit-based process that serves the long-term interests of the university and the Namibian higher education sector.

To ensure continuity, the Council appointed Professor Andrew Niikondo as Acting Vice-Chancellor following the suspension of former Vice-Chancellor Professor Erold Naomab due to alleged mismanagement.

NUST has called on all qualified candidates to apply, with applications closing on 13 February.
