The longstanding dispute, a matter that has been running since 2021, of the VaGciriku chieftainship has been reviewed and set aside in the Windhoek High Court on Friday.

Previously, former Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni approved the designation of Felix Muraghuli Mashika as Hompa of the VaGciriku in 2023, a decision that has now been reviewed and set aside by High Court Judge Esi Schimming-Chase.

The matter has been referred to Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa for proper determination in accordance with the customary law of succession of the VaGciriku.

Sankwasa is given 90 days from the date of the order to make a consideration and decision.

The matter has been removed from the roll and regarded as finalised. Mainly, the dispute centres around whether a Hompa descends to the throne through nomination by the predecessor Hompa or by the senior member in the royal family.
