Hostel learners at Caprivi Senior Secondary School boycotted lunch at the dining hall this afternoon after sewage infested the path from the hostel.

They claim that the ongoing issue, unresolved for over three years, poses health risks.

Hostel Head Girl Teresa Kahina said the area was drained and disinfected in 2023, but nothing was done when it recurred in 2024. The principal notified the Ministry of Works in early January 2026, but they have not made any progress. Health inspectors reportedly said disinfectant is out of stock.

Learners have written letters to education officials and the Katima Mulilo Town Council, but these, they say, have remained unanswered.

Hostel head boy Bornface Maswalo expressed concerns about the risk of infections from mosquitoes that have proliferated around the school, along with other health hazards associated with the sewage situation.

Reached for comment, the school principal, Richard Musilizo, said he could not speak on the issue; however, he said that education officials will be at the school tomorrow morning.

Efforts to reach the health inspector went unanswered.
