The NBC's leadership is engaging key stakeholders in the Omaheke Region ahead of hosting the Miss Namibia and Miss Teen Namibia 2026 pageants.
The engagement focused on security planning and the role of law enforcement during the pageants.
The pageant is expected to attract visitors from across the country and internationally, and the NBC is making use of the opportunity to strengthen partnerships to ensure a successful event.
Omaheke Police Commander Heinrich Tjiveze said they are aware of the scale of the upcoming event and will plan accordingly.
"We are 544 police officers in the region policing a population of about 102881, the population of the region, plus the guests. We will see what we can do; we will engage as time gets nearer, and we will tell you what we are. But of course we will be ready."
Meanwhile, NBC's Chief of Technology, Tuuliki Shipanga, also raised concerns about the vandalism of transmission towers in the region.
"In the past we also had incidents in Tallismanus. Tallismanus has been a bit quiet now, but Aminuis and Epukiro, believe me, at times, up to 3 times a year, the services will be down – no radio, no television – simply because there is theft of diesel, there is theft of batteries, and because of some of the stations; the generators have a battery component, and they standby the generator, so in the event there is a grid power failure, then we rely on the standby generator to power up the station."
Commissioner Tjiveze outlined some of the policing challenges in safeguarding remote infrastructure, particularly in areas with limited resources and vast distances between stations.
"We can perhaps arrange regular patrols, but the remote stations that you mentioned, they all have one car, so if the car has to go to court, for that whole day before the car returns from court, there is no vehicle. If it is nearby, the people can walk and inspect. Those are the challenges we have."
The NBC will continue with stakeholder engagements in the region, reinforcing its commitment to collaboration.
