The Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, Sport, Arts, and Culture, Dino Ballotti, has urged the academic staff at Triumphant College to execute their roles with integrity and professionalism at all times.
Balloti addressed the opening of the Triumphant College academic year in Windhoek.
Ballotti urged students not to be defined by symbols, saying their values should be determined by more than mere academic achievement.
"You are not defined by your symbols, but you are here, and the opportunity is before you. And when you work hard, I assure you, you will get lucky."
He said the government is doing everything in its power to support young people.
"As a government, 25% of the national purse goes to education. N$25 billion goes to the education sector."
The Rector of Triumphant College, Professor Geoffrey Kiangi, thanked the Education Ministry for its efforts to subsidise education costs.
"It is a declaration that your dreams matter, that your potential matters, and that Namibia believes in you; yet allow me to speak plainly. History has taught us that what comes without cost is sometimes treated with little value. I implore you, do not make that mistake."
He further highlighted that while technically free, the cost of education going forward will be passed on to ordinary Namibians.
"They believe that you will rise and carry this country forward. Honour that sacrifice. It is paid by people who believe that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world for Namibia."
Dean of Students at the institution, Dr. Franchine Keendjele, encouraged the students to "embrace this opportunity, set clear goals, strengthen discipline and pursue excellence in all that you do. We also remind you that university education like ours extends beyond academic performance."
The institution's opening was held under the theme "Shaping the Future".
