The governments of Namibia and Congo have committed to reviving the Loudima Institute for Technical and Vocational Training.

The institute, located in the town of Loudima in Congo, sits on a historic site used by SWAPO during the liberation struggle and was formerly known as the Loudima Technical Secondary School.

The facility was inaugurated in 2014 as a joint initiative between the two countries to equip students with competencies and skills aligned with national and international standards.

However, operations were suspended in 2021 due to various constraints, including reportedly poor academic and living conditions at the school.

Congo's Minister of International Cooperation and Promotion of Public-Private Partnerships, Denis-Christel Sassou Nguesso, described the project as a "legacy for the continent" as the two countries explore ways to revive its operations.

Sassou Nguesso spoke to the media following a courtesy call on President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah at State House on Thursday.

He is leading the Congolese delegation for the Namibia-Congo Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation meeting in Windhoek, where a number of agreements to scale up trade and investment between the two countries are expected to be signed.
