TransNamib, Chief Executive Officer Desmond van Jaarsveld said the company's emergency response team, together with regional medical services and the police, continues to provide ongoing support to survivors and attending to anyone requiring medical assistance.

He said an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway. 

Van Jaarsveld stated that TransNamib is cooperating fully with the authorities, and once finalised, key stakeholders will be informed, and appropriate measures will be implemented to prevent any recurrence.

The national rail service expresses condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have tragically lost their lives.
