The Road Development Agency in Zambia has announced the closure of Chingola Chililabombwe road, a route that leads to its border with DRC after terrestrial rains on Sunday morning washed away a bridge.
Motorists including Namibian truckers carrying goods destined for DRC have been advised to find alternative routes.
Preliminary investigations indicate failure of existing culverts due to excessive storm water.
Emergency intervention works to restore traffic flow using alternative routes have started.
In the interim, motorists using this T3 road more so those operating haulage vehicles are advised to suspend operations until further notice.
Zambia's Road Development Agency Chief Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Antony Mulowa in a media statement stated that he detour currently under construction may not handle haulage trucks.
Namibian trucks carrying products mainly Sea foods from the Coast to DRC use this only route.
The Road Development Agency assured the public that it's doing everything possible to reopen the route.
