Namibia says developments following the US-Israel strikes on Iran risk heightening tensions in an already fragile Middle East and undermining international peace and security.

In a statement, the Ministry of International Relations and Trade called for maximum restraint and the immediate cessation of hostilities.

The Ministry urged for a return to dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable pathway to sustainable peace.

It says Namibia aligns itself with the position of the African Union, which calls for urgent de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The February 28 joint military strikes by Israel and the United States resulted in the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with other national and military leaders and civilians.

As tensions escalate, Namibia urged the international community to intensify efforts to prevent further loss of life and restore stability in the Middle East.
