The |Khomas Region is making preparations for its regional celebrations in honour of Namibia's 36th Independence Day at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, where regional officials inspected the venue to ensure everything is ready for the event.
The regional celebrations, similar to those in all other regions, are organised by a regional preparatory committee led by the Chief Regional Officer of the |Khomas Regional Council, Clement Mafwila. This committee comprises various sub-committees, and members from these sub-groups conducted a site visit to the Sam Nujoma Stadium, where the festivities will occur on Independence Day.
During the inspection, officials confirmed where key activities will take place, including the area where the parade by the Namibian Defence Force will be held, as well as the spaces where tents for members of the public will be set up.
Specific entry points were also identified, with separate gates assigned for the public and VIP guests to ensure easier movement at the venue.
Mwafila also assured the public that security arrangements are well in place, adding that security personnel will be deployed around the stadium from Friday and Saturday to ensure the safety of all attendees.
Operations Officer in the Windhoek municipality's transport department, Mannfred Kajovi, said ten buses have been allocated to transport people to and from the event and will operate from the usual pickup points across the city.
Kajovi explained that buses will also be dispatched to areas outside Windhoek to ensure that people living further away are able to attend.
Stadium gates are expected to open at around six in the morning, with buses beginning their routes as early as five to transport people to the venue.
This year's theme for Namibia's 36th Independence Day celebrations is "Beyond 35 for a Prosperous Future". The 2026 celebrations will be held simultaneously across all 14 regions of Namibia, marking a shift from previous years when the national event was hosted in a single region or town.
