Angola's Ambassador to Russia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, revealed that Luanda and Moscow were collaborating on 'peaceful exploration of outer space', speaking on the Space Forum's sidelines in Moscow on Thursday.
"Angola and Russia have an agreement on the peaceful exploration of outer space. It was on this basis that we launched the AngoSat‑2 satellite in 2022," he said. "The agreement also includes the training of specialists, and this work continues. Thanks to this, in the medium or long term, we will be able to send an Angolan astronaut on a Russian spacecraft."
The diplomat also noted that many young Angolan people were studying in Russia to "strengthen our understanding of new technologies".
The Russian Space Forum is taking place as part of Space Week and marks the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin. The event aims to define the strategic agenda for the industry and strengthen international co-operation in the peaceful exploration of outer space.
