Members of Parliament in the National Assembly have raised concerns over the continued allocation of funds to projects still at the feasibility study stage, noting that some of these studies are yet to be completed.

The concerns were raised during contributions to the budget allocation for the votes of Sport, Youth, Arts and Culture.

This vote received a budget allocation of N$750.4 million.

Some MPs also suggested that the Youth Fund administered by the National Youth Council should be harmonised with the National Youth Development Fund, which falls under the Ministry of Finance.

MPs questioned whether the ministry is considering reviewing training programmes to align with actual labour market demands.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Dino Ballotti, responded to some of the concerns.

He explained that the National Youth Service has 11 accredited TVED courses. These courses include agriculture, horticulture, and crop production at level three. "There's agricultural farm management, which is a level four. Clothing production, hospitality, tourism, civil business, service engineering, metal fabrication, and several others."

He added that "it's valid when you say we do not only want to see our trainees move forward to the security cluster. We want to see them become entrepreneurs. I had the benefit of attending both the Rietfontein and the Henties Bay facilities with Her Excellency, our Vice President. And I can tell you that a lot of good work is going into the National Youth Service. This ministry is looking after all young people, and not only those from any political party."

The House approved and adopted the vote.
