The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund regards the implementation of the scholar patrol project as a vital initiative for educating learners about road safety, aiming to reduce the rising number of accidents.

The Public Education Officer at MVA, Eliphas Rukambe, stressed that accidents have become a thorn in the flesh; hence, the need to introduce scholar patrol initiatives.

Rukambe, who was in the Omaheke Region, stated that the fund will assist schools with the establishment of scholar patrols.

"This will primarily help ensure that children are not in traffic conflict when they are travelling to and from school. This initiative primarily provides children with the knowledge to cross only at designated locations and to avoid wandering while crossing the road. This mainly reduces the road traffic conflict or the risk that is involved, as well as fatalities; it will greatly minimise the setup of the scholar patrol."

Rukambe also called on road safety stakeholders to ensure that learners are educated on the importance of scholar patrol projects.
