The Standard Bank Swakopmund Open Golf Tournament took place at the Rossmund Golf Course over the past weekend, drawing a field of 63 golfers from across the country. The two-day competition featured 12 women and five juniors, representing various clubs in a showcase of national talent.

In the men’s division, the tournament saw a competitive start as Samuel Nel and Edwin Kutara opened with identical rounds of 74 gross. However, Nel pulled away by recording back-to-back rounds of 72 to secure a four-shot lead and claim the men's title, while Kutara finished as the runner-up following his consistent early performance.

The ladies division provided a closely contested battle, with Daulaine Holtzhausen defeating Wilna Bredenhann by a single shot. Holtzhausen also led the stableford category with an 84 gross. Reflecting on her victory, Holtzhausen emphasized the importance of mental fortitude on a demanding course."It was definitely a tough tournament. You have to stay focused and play your own game. The course is challenging, but if you maintain your rhythm and concentration, it pays off," Holtzhausen said. "Over the two days, I focused on my game and not on my opponent, and that made the difference."

The President of the Namibia Ladies Golf Union, Suene Venter, expressed excitement over the integration of different playing categories and looked forward to upcoming national fixtures."We are very excited about what lies ahead, especially bringing everyone together under NamGolf, including juniors, seniors, and men," Venter noted. "Our next event will be the Namibian Open in mid-May at the Windhoek Golf Club, and we are looking forward to strong participation, particularly from ladies and juniors."

President of Golf Namibia, Marco Swartz, acknowledged the continued support of sponsors and shifted the focus to international representation, as the national senior team prepares for a regional assignment.

"Golf Namibia remains active with monthly events, and we are grateful for the sponsorship support. The senior team is traveling to Eswatini, and we wish them all the best," Swartz stated. "We encourage all golfers to take part in competitions and represent Namibia strongly at both national and international levels."

With the Swakopmund Open concluded, players are now shifting their attention to the Namibian Open and other national events scheduled for later this month.
