Special Olympics athletes from Kavango East, Kavango West, and the Zambezi Region are camping and training in Rundu ahead of the national competition in Windhoek.
Athletes are training at Dr Romanus Kampungu Sport Field as part of preparations for the upcoming event.
The camp organiser, Roseman Korea, explained the purpose of bringing the regions together. “ The goal is just one like we've stated to just bring the whole regions to prepare for the national games, special Olympics national games in Windhoek this coming week,this is also to show special Olympics is not only about once specific sport but to show the unified or the unity within box athletes and a partner making sure this rules and regulations are understood very well for any athletes not to be left out"
He also invited the Windhoek community to attend the event.
“I would like to invite everyone that is in Windhoek to come watch our national games that will be happening in Windhoek and just to know that we are not only going there to participate but we are coming there to inspire to make sure that everything is well done and well taken off from the childhood stage to growing up to a sportsmanship athlete”
Basketball player Innocentius Sipriano shared his experience. “ It feels amazing to be part of the special Olympics family o have learned that my ability is stronger along with a sense of strategy that helps me to communicate with my team mates and I strongly believe in my dream to bring back a gold medal home”
Sipriano also encouraged supporters to follow the games. “ For the viewers that are watching we strongly pledge you to come and watch and support,those who won't make it please switch on your TV's hold your remote and put on NBC 1 to view our games”
A total of 72 athletes from the three regions are taking part in the camp, training in soccer, netball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball, athletics, and football.
