||Kharas stakeholders requested more time to submit regional views on the constitutional legal framework during Monday's consultation with the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs.
||Kharas Region Governor Dawid Gertze urged follow-up. "Mr Chairperson, there is a need for us, immediately after this meeting, to call a similar consultation—even in the absence of the standing committee, to reinforce the thinking of this gathering more deeply and decisively. This is not just to petition, though there is room for that, but to enable the committee to represent a substantive view from the ||Kharas Region."
Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee Member Job Amupanda welcomed the idea. "We will benefit from that engagement because it means you are taking ownership of the process. It is not a process for parliamentarians only. We appreciate you engaging us as a start, but we still need real suggestions from genuine consultations that consolidate ||Kharas's position."
Governor Gertze added that residents have raised ongoing concerns over land reform, resettlement, and alleged discrimination against some traditional authorities since he assumed office. He said these could form part of discussions. "How does the constitution address, rebalance, and redress these issues? We had two conferences that were aggressive, productive, and forward-looking, but we are still waiting. It needs to be addressed."
The committee will continue engagements across all 14 regions.
