Residents, supporters, and football fans gathered in Otjiwarongo on Saturday to welcome home Mighty Gunners F.C. following the team's victory in the 2026 tournament final.

The procession began at the Okakarara junction, where supporters met the team before escorting them into Otjiwarongo in a convoy.

"These boys made me happy. Since the beginning of this tournament, we were undefeated, eliminating teams one by one until the final. Before we went to Windhoek, I talked to them and said, 'Guys, we eliminated Chula Chula. We eliminated 11 Arrows. Why is it not possible for us to eliminate UNAM” Brigadier General Abraham Nghondela who is the President of Mighty Gunners Sports Club said.

The team delivered on that ambition.

Mighty Gunners secured the championship title after defeating UNAM FC in the final match in Windhoek, earning the N$600,000 prize money.

Head coach Leonald Nambandi credited the players for their work ethic, stating that the victory belongs to the community of Otjiwarongo and the club's supporters.

"We are excited to bring the cup to the town of Otjiwarongo. It has been a long time coming. We have tried many times. This was actually our first time playing in the final, and we are happy that we finally did it” Nambandi said.

Local leadership expressed appreciation for the team's achievement.

"The entire Otjiwarongo community and the Otjiwarongo Municipality are pleased to receive the cup. Thank you for bringing the trophy home. We are proud of you, and may you continue this trajectory. This should not be the last, but rather the beginning of bringing trophies home." Otjiwarongo Mayor Leonard Simushi said.

"Nowadays, football is not just a social activity. It plays a role in uplifting our community, which is why we are here today to encourage these players. This serves as motivation that pursuing sports can also create employment opportunities." Councilor for Otjiwarongo Constituency Paulus Nekundi said.
