Namibia views green hydrogen development as the core of the country's development agenda.

National Planning Commission Director General Dr. Kaire Mbuende made the remarks at the World Hydrogen Summit and Exhibition in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

During the session titled "Spotlight: Namibia Hydrogen Developments", Dr. Mbuende addressed the participants, and reaffirmed that Namibia is ready for partnership in the production of green molecules in the country.

He said Namibia aspires to create 30,000 green jobs by 2030, build domestic production capacity, and contribute to global decarbonisation.

Dr. Mbuende, therefore, invited investors to look at Namibia as a future platform for the low-carbon industry in Southern Africa.

"We are here to reaffirm that Namibia is ready to partner with you all. We are ready to look at Namibia not only as a production location for green hydrogen but also as a future platform for the low-carbon industry in southern Africa. We are ready to move with us from dialogue to implementation. We invite our partner to continue working with us on practical demand-side instruments. Often, frameworks, certification systems and project finance structures can move the sector from aspiration to implementation."

Rotterdam is a city that has positioned itself as a major hub for Europe's green hydrogen-driven development and a gateway to the rest of Europe, presenting valuable opportunities for knowledge sharing, partnership building, and investment engagement for Namibia's green hydrogen programme and projects.

Manager of External Affairs and Communication at the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme (NGH2P), Jona Musheko, explained that "Namibia used the global platform to reinforce its vision of positioning green hydrogen as a catalyst for industrial transformation and economic growth."

On the sidelines of the summit, Dr. Mbuende also led the Namibian delegation on a visit to ENERTRAG's operational sites in Germany.

The visit provided valuable first-hand insight into the practical implementation of large-scale renewable energy and green hydrogen projects while also offering an opportunity to learn from global best practices and operational experience in the sector.
