The Windhoek Gymnasium was a hive of activity as it hosted the annual Inter-High Games, with schools battling for top honours across various sporting codes in one of the country's premier school sporting events.
The games ran over three days and included several disciplines, with Padel, Esports, and Triathlon among the latest additions to the tournament. Learners looked forward to the Inter-High Games as an opportunity to test their skills against their peers while showcasing teamwork and athletic ability.
The hosting school's first-team netball vice-captain, Hayley Kidd, spoke about what the event means to the learners and the school community following a dominant performance on the court.
Kidd described the atmosphere of the weekend as magical, highlighting her team's commanding 47-20 victory over Windhoek High School's first team. She noted that after being motivated by the rugby results the previous day, the netball team took it upon themselves to deliver a high-scoring, statement victory of their own.
Meanwhile, learners from Windhoek High School expressed their excitement about taking part in the competition despite facing tough opposition on the court. Kanguatjivi acknowledged that the matches were highly challenging and required intense effort from the squad.
She noted that while they pushed themselves to the limit until the final week of preparation, Windhoek Gymnasium ultimately walked away with the victory. Kavitjene added that although they arrived determined to compete hard against Windhoek Gymnasium and ultimately fell short, the team views the loss as an opportunity to refine their skills. She emphasized their determination to bounce back and defeat their rivals in future encounters, while congratulating the hosts on their win.
Grassroots development remains vital, and the participating schools demonstrated that with commitment and proper organisation, high-level youth sporting events can be successfully delivered.
Eight wins across the different sporting codes were required to secure the overall title. The games concluded today with the final netball and rugby fixtures, closing another exciting edition of the Inter-High Games.
