Ohangwena Regional Governor Kadiva Hamutumwa has highlighted that learners who have access to proper accommodation and school facilities are more likely to excel academically, develop critical skills, and become productive members of society.

She made the remarks during the donation of 20 beds and 17 mattresses to Mawila Primary School at Ekokofi Village in the Ohangwena Region.

Parents from Ekokofi and surrounding villages have constructed corrugated iron shacks to accommodate learners who travel long distances to attend school.

Mawila Primary School, which caters to learners from Grades 1 to 7, serves children who walk up to six kilometres to and from school each day.

To address this challenge, parents mobilised resources and raised funds to establish a community hostel for their school-going children.

"Education is very important—they say education is the equaliser. We want to produce nurses from this area, teachers, engineers, and many more from Mawila Primary School. Education is the foundation for a better future."

The donation is expected to benefit more than 50 learners currently accommodated at the community-built hostel.

Hamutumwa also pledged to mobilise funding for the construction of proper hostel facilities.

Mawila Primary School already has access to electricity and potable water.
