Ondangwa-based runner Frans Seibeb is setting his sights on future competitions after earning a bronze medal at this year's Comrades Marathon in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Known as "The Top Runner", the 39-year-old athlete is also the co-founder of the Ondangwa Running Club, which has grown to 50 active members.
Siebeb began competing in races across Namibia as part of his journey to build a career in long-distance running.
Last year, he completed the Bachmus Marathon, his first full marathon, which qualified him for the 99th edition of the Comrades Marathon, where he earned a bronze medal.
Siebeb said running has become more than a hobby. It is a passion that helps him maintain his mental well-being while balancing the demands of work and everyday life.
NBC Sport caught up with Siebeb, who spoke about how his running career began and reflected on his experience competing in one of the world's longest and most demanding ultramarathons.
After earning a bronze medal, Siebeb said finishing within the qualifying time has motivated him to return next year to improve his overall ranking.
He also hopes his achievement will inspire more athletes from northern Namibia to take up long-distance running and compete at a higher level.
Siebeb is now preparing for his next challenge, the 42-kilometre Husab Marathon, scheduled for 15 August 2026 in Swakopmund.
