The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources has condemned the presentation by the Ministry of Mines and Energy as incomprehensible and lacking in detail.
The ministry's representative, Mathew Mukosho, made the presentation during the committee's oversight engagement in Keetmanshoop.
The committee, led by its chairperson Tobie Aupindi, is conducting an oversight visit in the ||Karas Region.
"And this is why we say when people appear before the committee, we bring communities together so that people really understand the operations of your ministry. It is not good enough for the DD, the deputy director, to say the ministry is too big to get all the other information. It is a lame excuse that this committee will not entertain now and in the future," Aupindi said.
Mukosho's presentation primarily focused on SME training and empowerment programmes.
He explained that, since the energy department is centralised in Windhoek, he was unable to provide a detailed overview of the energy sector.
The committee advised the Ministry of Mines and Energy to revisit its presentation and requested a detailed report on activities in the region before the end of the week.
As part of its oversight function, the committee is expected to visit Hyphen Hydrogen Energy and Debmarine Namibia, as well as agricultural projects including Naute and Neckartal dams.
