Namibia is set to host and lead the Sixth Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialised Technical Committee on Social Development, Labour and Employment. 

Held in a tripartite format, the session will be from 27 to 31 July 2026 in Windhoek. 

In a statement the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations says the high-level session will bring together ministers responsible for Social Development, Labour and Employment from African Union (AU) member states; senior government officials; representatives of workers' and employers' organisations; regional economic communities; and development partners.

Convened under the theme "Investing, Strengthening and Expanding Social Protection Systems in Africa: A Critical Enabler for Inclusion, Resilience and Social Justice"

The ordinary session will focus on strengthening cooperation among Member States and advancing coordinated policy responses that promote inclusive social development, decent work, employment creation, labour mobility, and resilient social protection systems.

The meeting takes place during significant socio-economic challenges confronting the continent.

Therefore, the session provides member states with an opportunity to review progress in implementing African Union policy instruments, assess emerging challenges, and agree on practical measures to strengthen social protection systems, expand employment opportunities, and improve labour market inclusion. 

For Namibia, hosting the meeting offers the country a strategic moment to showcase leadership in shaping Africa's labour and social protection agenda.

The Sixth Ordinary Session speaks to Namibia's national plans anchored in Vision 2030, which prioritises strengthened social protection systems, employment creation, resilience-building and inclusive economic progress.
