The Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations has announced that nation-wide regional consultations will take place as from next month as part of efforts to amend the Employment Services Act, Act No. 8 of 2011, to ensure it remains responsive to the country's evolving labour market.
The consultative meetings will take place across all 14 regions from 10 August to 16 September 2026, bringing together stakeholders to contribute to the review of the legislation.
The consultations are aimed at gathering public input on the implementation of the current law, identifying challenges, and proposing practical recommendations to strengthen employment services in Namibia.
The Ministry explained that the review forms part of the government's commitment to ensuring that Namibia's employment legislation remains relevant, effective and aligned with changing labour market dynamics.
In a statement, the Ministry further noted that the consultations will help improve equitable access to employment opportunities, strengthen labour market services, enhance the regulation of private employment agencies and designated employers and improve service delivery nationwide.
It emphasised that meaningful stakeholder engagement is essential in developing legislation that reflects the needs and aspirations of all Namibians.
“These consultations provide employers, employees, trade unions, job seekers, educational institutions, civil society organisations, and members of the public with an opportunity to share their views and help shape legislation that responds to the needs of Namibia's labour market. The Ministry therefore encourages all invited stakeholders to participate.
