Ten karatekas from the Rundu Kyokushin Karate Academy have completed a belt grading ceremony in Rundu, marking another step in their martial arts training. The assessment evaluated their technical progress while reinforcing core values of discipline, respect, self-defence, and physical fitness.
Academy Coach Melvinho Nyambe explained that his passion for martial arts motivated him to establish the dojo to help mentor responsible youth."I have trained in karate for twelve years and earned my black belt. I wanted to introduce the younger generation to the discipline because it develops both mind and body, helping them become responsible citizens within our community."
Nyambe invited new members to join while appealing for assistance to secure suitable facilities and equipment."Our joining process is straightforward, and everyone is welcome. Currently, I am conducting grading sessions at my residence while we search for an affordable venue to rent. We also require proper training mats to prevent injuries, so we are appealing to potential sponsors and well-wishers to support our growth."
Several participants reflected on the personal benefits of their training. Sikongo Aina noted that martial arts instils respect and promotes personal safety, while Luvanda Livanda emphasized that the sport empowers youth to defend themselves against potential threats. Singular Nzwala and Lumba Lubanda both highlighted how regular practice fosters self-discipline and maintains health.
Meanwhile, Nyambe Ethan stressed the core ethics taught at the academy. "The most crucial lesson I have learned is self-defence. It should never be used without cause, but only as a last resort when no other option remains."
The Rundu Kyokushin Karate Academy aims to expand its membership and secure corporate sponsorship to enhance its facilities as it continues nurturing young talent across the region.
