The bail matter involving murder accused Anelda Beverly Uiras Shigwedha has been postponed to 19 October 2026 after her lawyer failed to appear in court.

35-year-old Anelda Uiras Shigwedha is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of her husband, Sergeant Thomas Shigwedha, last year in June. 

She's also charged with defeating or obstructing the course of justice and acquiring proceeds of unlawful activities and robbery. 

Her lawyer, Vernon Lutibezi, however, did not show up. 

Dominga Shigwedha is a niece of the late policeman.

"He said that he is afraid of us who are doing the protesting, so he could not attend due to that, but then the magistrate said it was not a valid reason, and then he refused to accept it, and he said he will only be available on the 27th November, which the magistrate refused, saying it's too far; it's 3 months."

The court was later informed by email that the accused lawyer was not medically fit to be in court. 

Petitioners were concerned about possible interference with witnesses if the accused is granted bail, claiming that some witnesses were initially afraid to come forward and only provided information to investigators after Shigwedha's arrest.

Sister of the late Shigwedha, Rosalia Shigwedha, said, "Now when the CCTV came out, we could see the wife walking with the deceased person that time that you were supposed to be at the sister's house. That's not when the investigators turned to that video, and that is the video that now talks the truth now because they wanted to know now why she is working with her husband in town."

They want the police to investigate allegations that some relatives provided investigators with false, misleading or incomplete information on Anelda Uiras Shigwedha about events on the day of the murder. 

The matter has now been postponed to 19 October 2026.
