Learners with disabilities continue to face challenges in accessing education, with a growing demand for attention to the specific needs of deaf learners, those with visual impairments, and wheelchair users.

|Khomas Region Junior National Council member Americo Kamuhamba, who has hearing impairment, raised the issue during debate on a motion to eliminate gender disparities and ensure equal educational opportunities, retention, and academic success for boys and girls.

Kamuhamba said challenges faced by deaf and visually impaired learners, as well as those who use wheelchairs, emphasising that their needs must be taken into account when addressing equal access to education.

He added that young people have a responsibility to help tackle the challenges within their communities, reminding the JNC members that future leaders are needed.

"You as young people—boys and girls—you are the future of education. You are the leaders and the future. Being a leader means helping people in your community.”
