Medical personnel from Dr Aluteni Dental Practice conducted an outreach programme to promote oral health at Ontinda Combined School in the Oshana Region.

Learners received free toothpaste and brushes and were educated on proper dental hygiene and care.

A dentist at Dr Aluteni Dental Practice, Kristofina Badu, explained that the outreach programme is designed to instil good oral health habits early to address dental problems, especially in areas that are far from medical facilities.

"We detected cavities and performed some emergency extractions for those who were able to be treated on-site. For those with more serious dental issues, we referred them to larger hospitals. We chose this school because I am from the Ontinda community, and it is the only school in this area, which lacks a local clinic. Our aim was to bring dental services closer to the people."

Teachers at Ontinda Combined School welcomed the programme, saying oral health is often overlooked, though it plays a key role in learners' overall wellbeing and school attendance.

The initiative received appreciation from learners. 

The dental practice said it plans to extend its outreach programme to various regions.
