Cabinet has instructed the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy to prepare the Consumer Protection Bill and has also approved, in principle, the establishment of the Consumer Protection Agency.

The directive is part of the resolution taken at the last Cabinet sitting.

Other resolutions include the authorisation to the Minister of Justice and Labour Relations to submit the approved responses to the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review.

Cabinet has also taken note of the Social Media Audit report and directed all government agencies and local authorities to implement all the recommendations in the report.

In addition, it noted the participation of the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture at the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers' Meeting and related engagements in Glasgow, Scotland, and the United Kingdom.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus shared the information during a Cabinet briefing on Thursday. 

"Cabinet directed the Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture to ensure that the existing budgetary provision is effectively utilised to strengthen para-sport programmes and support the development of athletes with disabilities with clear implementation targets and measurable outcomes."

The Cabinet also discussed the El Niño phenomenon and instructed the Minister of Works and Transport, in conjunction with the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, and other relevant agencies, to coordinate and implement an awareness campaign regarding the potential for reduced rainfall and elevated temperatures.
