President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Bernadette Jagger as Social Development and Community Interface Advisor to the Presidency, effective 01 October 2026.

In a media release, the Presidency stated that Jagger will advise the President on policies and programmes aimed at advancing social development, strengthening community engagement and promoting national cohesion.

Her responsibilities will include providing policy recommendations on poverty reduction, education, health, youth development, social protection and community empowerment.

Jagger will also serve as a link between the Presidency and communities across all regions, ensuring that their concerns and aspirations are brought to the President's attention.

Her role will include engaging with civil society, traditional authorities, faith-based organisations, youth, women and other community stakeholders, with particular attention to vulnerable and marginalised groups.

Jagger's mandate further includes monitoring the implementation of presidential directives on social development, assessing the impact of relevant programmes and recommending improvements based on evidence and community feedback.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed confidence in Jagger's ability to discharge her duties with professionalism, dedication, efficiency and effectiveness.

Jagger holds a Bachelor of Philosophy in Education.

She is a former Deputy Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Child Welfare and previously served as Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism.
