The Windhoek Show has kicked off on a busy note on the first day, with businesses from Namibia and other countries displaying their products and services.

While the event provides businesses with exposure to consumers, exhibitors are also using the platform to assess market interest, engage potential customers, and establish business contacts.

Some local businesses see the exhibition as a platform that provides an opportunity to assess consumer demand and introduce their products to a wider market.

An exhibitor, Dewet Botes from Erika's, is showcasing products targeting women.

Erika's has been operating in Namibia for 15 years.

Botes explained that through its market research strategy, sources, and imports, the company imports products from South Africa before distributing them to other parts of the country.

He said market research and understanding consumers' needs are among the many challenges facing some local businesses, who venture into wrong markets and subsequently collapse at the initial stages of going into business.

The participation of businesses such as Erika's at the Windhoek Show highlights the role of exhibitions in connecting local enterprises with consumers and potential business partners.

The event also offers exhibitors an opportunity to gauge consumer response, identify market opportunities, and strengthen their presence in different parts of the country.
