Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi says the designs for bridges to be constructed along the B1 road for pedestrians have been completed, with contractors expected to be on sight before November this year.

He further stated that since the speed humps were installed as a temporary solution, there have been no accidents involving pedestrians.

Nekundi was responding to AR MP, George Kambala, who said the recently installed speedhumps are causing traffic congestion and delaying road users.

Kambala also sought clarity regarding what progress the ministry has made in terms of constructing bridges for pedestrians crossing the road.

"With the design finally approved, the funds of N$70 million are for the two; it's because of N$70 million, it's costed. Because it's over that period. Bridges are very expensive. If anybody can offer something steeper, we welcome it. So are done. I assure you, honourable Kambala and all MPs and the nation, that everything has been equal. We should expect the contractor on that side to construct the two bridges," said Nekundi.

He also responded to IPC MP John-Louw Mouton regarding faded traffic lines along the road between Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo, which could compromise the safety of road users.

"I have just not observed that. And after Parliament, I will engage my colleagues with road authority to address it. And I'm then saying anything that affects our people on the road, that the potential – please don't hesitate. Don't hesitate to ask because we are letting our people avoid accidents. I will take it very seriously, and I will make an appointment."
