The FNB Eagles head coach, Craig Williams, says the upcoming five-match One Day International (ODI) series against Ireland will provide a valuable test for his team as they prepare for the World Cup Qualifier in December.

Fresh from their tour of the United States, the Eagles return to action on home soil, welcoming top-tier opposition to secure crucial match practice.

Williams, a former Namibian international who represented the country across more than 400 matches before stepping into the head coach role, highlighted that hosting high-caliber international teams offers the squad an ideal benchmark. The series follows a demanding schedule over the past month, which included competitive fixtures against South Africa and Zimbabwe, alongside dedicated preparation during their recent American tour.

Namibia concluded their United States tour by securing five points out of a possible eight, finishing fifth in the standings and retaining their ODI status. During the tour, the Eagles earned an eight-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates and bounced back from a four-wicket loss against the host nation to claim a six-wicket win over the USA in their final match, while one fixture was abandoned due to rain.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus will continue to lead the side, with his all-round contributions with bat and ball remaining central to the team's match strategies. The squad will also rely on the experience of senior left-handers JJ Smit and Jan Frylinck, alongside key contributions from wicketkeeper Zane Green, all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, and frontline seamers Ruben Trumpelmann and Ben Shikongo.

Erasmus reinforced the technical importance of the series, noting that facing a quality Irish side across five matches will test the squad's depth, sharpen execution, and help build necessary momentum ahead of December's World Cup Qualifier.

The opening match of the ODI series takes place on Thursday, 22 October 2026, at the HP Oval, before moving to the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground for the second fixture on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
