Special Olympics Namibia has officially launched the "Padel & Plunge for Purpose" fundraising campaign in Windhoek, addressing the crucial financial support needed to provide athletes with intellectual disabilities access to regular sports training, health screenings, and competitive opportunities.

Unveiled during a media and stakeholder breakfast at the Namibia Cricket Grounds, the initiative aims to raise between N$150,000 and N$250,000 to direct toward athlete development and national team preparations. The campaign uniquely combines a corporate padel tournament with a cold-water "Polar Plunge" challenge to mobilize community and corporate financial support.

Special Olympics Africa Region President Charles Nyambe emphasized that the initiative extends far beyond sport, noting that investing in the project represents an investment in the athletes themselves by creating vital opportunities for them to grow, develop, and showcase their abilities.

The main fundraising event is scheduled for November 21, 2026, at the Namibia Padel courts in Windhoek. Corporate teams can register for the Corporate Cup at N$2,500 per team of two, while entries for the Open Social Division are set at N$800 per team. Additionally, corporate executives are being encouraged to participate in the Polar Plunge with a target pledge of N$5,000, while individual participants have a target of N$1,500.

Special Olympics Namibia Board Chairperson William De Arth assured stakeholders of strict financial accountability, emphasizing that the funds raised will be directly applied to athlete development so contributors can see the tangible impact of their support.

Through the "Padel & Plunge for Purpose" campaign, Special Olympics Namibia aims to establish sustainable support for athletes with intellectual disabilities, significantly expanding their access to train, participate, and excel on competitive stages.
